How to get the most out of your YIONN Single Blade razor.

Thank you for purchasing the YIONN Single Blade razor.

Besides a Single Blade safety razor being better for your skin, it is also better for the environment.

By taking small steps in our daily lives and being more conscious of the amount of waste we produce, we all do our part.

This isn’t always the easiest (or cheapest) path.

But if we don’t do it, who will?

Thank you for taking this step and buying a Single Blade razor from YIONN.

YOUR YIONN SINGLE BLADE RAZOR

Your new YIONN Single Blade razor will last for decades with normal use.

It is made of high-quality stainless steel. For the right balance and control, the head is crafted from a zinc alloy.

The idea behind a Single Blade safety razor is that you can use the highest quality blades in the safest way possible.

The waste you produce with this method of shaving is minimal compared to classic plastic cartridges.

You only throw away the metal blade, which in turn can be easily recycled.

Over the entire lifespan of your Single Blade razor, this saves a huge amount of raw materials, packaging, plastic, transport, and not to mention: money.

The Benefits

Marketing has long led us women to believe that more blades (a multi-blade shaving system) is ACTUALLY better.

But nothing could be further from the truth: the more often you pass over your skin with a blade, the more you damage the top layer of skin.

The so-called “lift-and-cut” principle of a multi-blade shaving system ensures that your hair ends up below your skin layer after shaving.

This causes skin irritation and ingrown hairs.

Razor 1

Because the quality of a Single Blade is better (read: sharper), you get a closer and better result.

After all, a well-maintained sharp kitchen knife cuts much better than a dull one. The same applies to a Single Blade razor.

Unlike multi-blade plastic cartridges, Single Blade blades use a standard design. So you can buy them anywhere: online, at the drugstore, and in our webshop.

Wherever you buy them: they will always fit your YIONN Single Blade razor.

TIP: preferably choose Platinum (coated) blades. These have a longer lifespan.

How to insert the blade

PLEASE NOTE: ALWAYS hold the blade only by the short sides.

Never by the long sharp side. The blades are razor-sharp, even when they are too dull to shave well with.

Assembled razor

A Single Blade razor consists of 3 parts: The head (A), the comb (B), and the handle (C). Parts A and B together form the shaving head.

  1. Hold the shaving head (A and B) and turn the handle (C) counter-clockwise to unscrew the head. NEVER turn the shaving head.
  2. Ensure all parts (A, B, and C) are detached from each other
  3. Carefully take the blade out of the packaging
  4. Place the blade on the head (A)
  5. Place the comb (B) on the blade and the head (A). Note: Make sure the ridges on the comb point towards the top of your razor and not towards the handle.
  6. Screw the handle (C) onto the shaving head (A and B), turning the handle and not the shaving head
  7. Tighten until the handle is secure and the blade is slightly curved

How to use

Switching from a multi-blade to a Single Blade safety razor may take some getting used to. Especially if you have sensitive skin.

But it’s called a safety razor for a reason! The semi-round plate on the head makes it safe so you can shave everything with it that you previously shaved with a multi-blade.

Single Blade Positions

The ideal angle: The ideal position of the blade relative to your skin is 30°. If you make the angle too small, it can cause irritation and a burning sensation, and you risk micro-cuts.

If the angle is more than 30°, there’s a chance the blade won’t touch your skin and therefore won’t shave off any hairs.

Practice makes perfect: through experience, you’ll learn the ideal shaving angle. This way, you’ll cut yourself less often, shave smoother, and make a blade last longer.

Go with the grain: As a beginner, it’s recommended to first shave with the grain, not against it. This is better for your skin and more comfortable.

Have more experience? Then you can go over your skin a second time, shaving against the grain. This ensures an even smoother result.

Patience: Don’t rush. A safety razor works very differently from a multi-blade razor. Teach yourself to use the razor by practicing on an easy spot first, like your legs.

Open your pores: Wet your skin first with lukewarm to warm water. This opens the pores for an even smoother shaving result. You can also use the razor in the shower.

Use shaving cream: Use a shaving cream to soften the hairs and make them stand up. A nourishing shaving cream ensures smooth skin, less friction, and therefore less irritation.

Rinse under hot water before use: Rinse your razor with warm water before you start shaving. This ensures the blade lasts longer.

During and after shaving, rinse your razor regularly under running water to remove shaving cream and hair residue.

Use short strokes: Use short, fluid strokes while shaving. A Single Blade doesn’t have a head that moves with the contours of your body like a multi-blade razor does.

Short strokes make it easier to follow your curves. Especially parts of your body where bone is closer to the surface (like your shin).

Apply no pressure: Let the Single Blade glide over your skin without applying pressure. Pressing on the razor while shaving is the most common reason for cutting yourself. Let the weight of the head do the work, and don’t apply extra pressure.

Pat sharp sides dry: Do not rub. This is to prevent your blade from becoming dull prematurely.

Finally.. close the pores: After shaving, it’s best to finish by using an aftershave balm or rinsing with water as cold as possible. This helps prevent shaving rash.

When drying, use your towel by patting (not rubbing) to dry your skin.

Tips for the Pro

IMG_6256-1

Be extra careful with thin areas: Watch out for parts of your body with thin skin, such as the back of your knees and your groin. The rounded head of a Single Blade helps prevent cuts, but always make sure to keep this skin as smooth as possible.

Underarms: For shaving your underarms, you can follow an X-pattern. The first time, shave with the grain. The second time from the sides, and the third time against the grain.

If you have sensitive skin, it’s better to skip the last step and only shave from top to bottom and left to right.
Don’t forget to keep your underarm skin taut here too.

Intimate zone: Your intimate zone is the most sensitive. So always be extra careful. The advice is to only do this once you’ve gained more experience with a Single Blade razor. Keep the skin taut here too to prevent cuts.

Shave your mons pubis from top to bottom, and if your skin allows, from bottom to top.

Shave your groin from left to right, and further “down under” shave from top to bottom. Keep the skin taut here too to prevent cuts.

Pimples and moles: If possible, shave away from the pimple or mole to avoid damage.

Tips to extend lifespan

To significantly increase the lifespan of your blades, it’s important to dry your razor well after use.

Blades become dull faster mainly due to contact with liquids, rather than friction with hair. An anti-rust coating helps extend the lifespan. The razor itself cannot rust.

– Drying –

Shake it dry: by moving your hand quickly, you shake the moisture off the blade.
Pat it dry: Use a towel or washcloth to pat the head dry. Do not rub.

– Cleaning –

Clean the razor regularly (at least every 2 weeks) under hot running water. Use soap or shampoo if necessary.

– Traveling –

Generally, a Single Blade razor is allowed on planes. To be safe, it’s advisable to remove the loose blade from the holder and transport it in your suitcase (not in your carry-on).

How long does a blade last

There is (unfortunately) no standard answer to that. It depends on the thickness and density of your hair, how often you shave, the coating of your blades, your experience, and shaving technique.

For example, hardened blades with a platinum coating ensure your blade lasts longer.

Depending on the various factors mentioned above, you can shave an average of 8 to 10 times with one blade.

How do you know if the blade has become dull?

When shaving with a Single Blade, it should glide smoothly over your skin. When you feel the blade pulling or snagging, then your blade has become dull. Use the other side of the blade first, and replace the blade when both sides have become dull.

If you use blades without an anti-rust coating and you notice rust, replace the blade.

Replacing the blade

When it’s time to replace your blade, take it out of the head. Hold the short sides of the blade and never grab the long sides.

The blades stay sharp, even when they are too dull to shave with.
Note: always turn the handle and NOT the head or comb.

You can dispose of the blades with metal waste or with your regular household waste. Be careful that the blade doesn’t stick out anywhere. For example, put it in an empty tin can.

Out of blades? Buy them online, at the drugstore, or in our webshop.

Finally

Give yourself the time to learn how to shave with the YIONN Single Blade razor. It’s okay if it doesn’t work perfectly right away. You couldn’t ride a bike immediately the first time you got on one either.

Creating a new routine is never easy. But don’t give up too soon, and you’ll be rewarded with beautiful, soft, smooth skin.

Additionally, you immediately produce less waste and use less plastic.

It’s worth it!

Whether or not to shave is a choice; fortunately, shaving irritation is now one too!

YIONN has developed the perfect product for every step in your shaving routine!

You’re fed up with it. Time and again, those red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after hair removal on your bikini line, armpits, and legs.

You feel frustrated and anything but sexy. No woman should have to feel that way. And that includes you.
First of all, I want to reassure you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your skin.

It’s actually just doing what it’s supposed to do. It reacts to the stress of hair removal, which causes all sorts of unwanted side effects, such as itching and red bumps.

Not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a helping hand.
And that is exactly what YIONN products do!

YIONN Raka is truly a top product! A gentle solution for those annoying, painful ingrown hairs, especially when combined with the scrub.
Cindy

I thought: you know what, I’ll just give it a try! OMG!!! I really should have done that sooner. I’m 37 now and for the first time, I dare to wear a bikini bottom with pride . What a miracle cure! Not a single bit of irritation to be found. It’s still bizarre. And I really suffered from it.
Nikkie zijlstra

A product that does what it promises, easy to use. I now have almost all the products and won’t use anything else.
Alice

After 2 weeks, I already noticed a difference. Almost no bumps and itching anymore after shaving. I’m definitely going to try more products.
Patricia Tikar

I’ve often used things like this but they never helped me, even though others were always satisfied with them, and I felt the same about this product too, but I ordered it anyway and it took a bit longer for me, but it definitely helped!
Maria Ilgun

Much less irritation and bumps. The shaving gel and Raka are truly my favorites; last time I bought shaving foam out of necessity and immediately got bumps and irritation again…

Free from your shaving irritation within 3 weeks: or your money back

That is my promise to you!

From certified nurse to hair removal expert:

I’m Wendy, the founder of YIONN. I know better than anyone what it’s like to go through life with shaving discomforts.

After desperately trying all sorts of ways and remedies for red shaving bumps and ingrown hairs and spending a lot of money, I was sick of it.
I decided to find a solution for my shaving irritation myself that actually worked, and I succeeded!

I developed Raka, a caring lotion based on rose water, camphor, and willow bark. By applying a thin layer to the problem area, it easily and quickly calms the skin after hair removal, prevents red bumps, and lets the hair grow out again—instead of in.

And with that, I could finally say goodbye to my insecurity and discomfort.

Hallelujah.

When it later turned out that Raka worked not only for me but also for many other women, I started creating several other products around it that can make hair removal a pleasant experience again.

And because I am so convinced of how it works and I don’t want to keep your money in the rare case that you aren’t satisfied, I came up with the unique YIONN 30-day money-back guarantee (a guarantee you normally never get on hygiene products).
