Which scrub and exfoliating method is right for me?

Exfoliating is a huge boost for your skin, both for your face and your body. However, not every face or body scrub is suitable for your skin. Which type of scrub and which way of exfoliating suits you best depends on several factors.

Age, genes, skin type, and the reason why you want to exfoliate – such as dry skin, impurities, or ingrown hairs – all play a role. To help you, I have researched 7 different scrubs (and methods). In this blog article, you can read for each type of scrub/method who it is suitable for, for which body part, for what purpose, and skin type. This way, you’ll know exactly which scrub you want!

Body scrub

I cover 7 types of scrubs:

? Traditional scrub cream
? Dry brush
? Eco sponge
? Exfoliating glove
? Peeling
? Washcloth
? Scrub with microbeads

Traditional scrub

1. Traditional scrub

Traditional scrubs are available as a dry scrub or as a scrub cream. It is a popular cleansing product that naturally contains exfoliating particles such as sugar, salt, oatmeal, coffee, or ground pits – such as walnuts or apricot kernels.

Sugar scrubs are nice for sensitive skin because the granules are not very sharp and dissolve quickly during exfoliation. Salt scrubs have the advantage of being anti-inflammatory, and sea salt is a natural purifier.

Oatmeal scrubs are super gentle on the skin and have a hydrating effect. A coffee scrub is perfect for the body and is often used in anti-cellulite scrubs.

Scrubs with coarsely ground, sharp pits are too intense for the face. However, to remove and prevent ingrown hairs, this type of scrub is extremely suitable.

Body part: Coarse scrubs are suitable for your body and fine scrubs are also suitable for your face
Purpose: Cleansing, hydrating, stimulating blood circulation, removing waste products
Skin type: All skin types

Scrub brush

2. Dry brush

To exfoliate with a brush, you only need a brush. You use no cleansing product or water. It is an exfoliating method suitable for those who prefer not to exfoliate while showering.

It is claimed that exfoliating with a dry brush can reduce cellulite in addition to removing dead skin cells. Exfoliating with a dry brush stimulates blood circulation and the lymphatic system (which removes waste products), giving it a kind of detoxifying effect.

Body part: Suitable for your body
Purpose: Removing dead skin cells, stimulating blood circulation, detoxifying
Skin type: All skin types

Natural exfoliating sponge

3. Natural exfoliating sponge

Nowadays, all kinds of eco-friendly exfoliating sponges are for sale, such as a konjac sponge or a loofah sponge. These have the advantage of lasting a long time and being completely natural. Often there isn’t even any plastic packaging. Good for the environment!

Over time, bacteria can settle in the sponges. Cleaning them regularly is therefore a requirement.

Body part: Suitable for your body
Purpose: Cleansing
Skin types: All skin types

Exfoliating glove

4. Exfoliating glove

Exfoliating gloves are excellent for exfoliating your body because they allow you to exfoliate the entire body quickly and easily.

They come in all kinds of materials, such as silicone, hemp, and loofah. It’s better to avoid your face and other sensitive body parts like your neck with an exfoliating glove.

It is a durable product that you – depending on the material – can easily wash in the washing machine.

Body part: Suitable for your body
Purpose: Removing dead skin cells, preventing ingrown hairs
Skin types: All skin types

Ylonn Kjarr Scrub and Peeling

5. Peeling

With a peeling, also called an exfoliant, you remove dead, superficial skin cells using acids, such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or fruit acids.

You reveal a smoother skin surface with it, and a peeling removes dead skin cells without you having to exfoliate with scrub particles or a sponge, brush, or glove.

So you don’t run the risk of skin damage. This way of exfoliating is very mild and therefore perfect for the face.

Do you suffer from blemished skin or skin with acne or pigment spots? Then a peeling – because of its purifying effect – is a suitable exfoliating method for you.

Also, aging skin benefits from a peeling as it stimulates collagen production. Let your skin get used to the peeling and build up use slowly to prevent dehydration and irritation.

Body part: Suitable for your face
Purpose: Removing dead skin cells, purifying, stimulating skin renewal
Skin types: Sensitive skin, aging skin, and blemished skin

Washcloth

6. Washcloth

Do you have very sensitive (facial) skin and would you rather not exfoliate? Don’t underestimate the power of a simple washcloth! You can also use it to clean your skin well.

But in a mild way, without running the risk of damaging or irritating the skin. Of course, use it together with a mild soap or a face wash that suits your skin type.

Body part: Suitable for your body and face
Purpose: Mild cleansing
Skin types: Sensitive skin

Scrub with microbeads

7. Scrub with microbeads

So far, I’ve shared 6 great exfoliating methods with you that allow you to benefit from the fantastic advantages of exfoliating. These are 6 methods that are kind to your skin and nature.

I would like to take this opportunity to ‘warn‘ you about a unfortunately still common exfoliating method: exfoliating with microbeads. Microbeads are very small plastic balls added to a scrub for the ‘exfoliating’ effect.

Extremely harmful to humans and the environment, because they cannot be filtered out of our water, and you’re not doing your skin any favors either. The small plastic particles eventually end up in the ocean, our food, and our bodies.

Fortunately, the use of microbeads is decreasing, but there are still scrubs available that contain them.

You can check the label to make sure a scrub contains natural exfoliating particles instead of microbeads.

Microbeads can be found on the label under the names: polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, and polymethyl methacrylate.

YIONN Kjarr

Are you looking for a natural scrub for sensitive body parts?

Especially for women who want to exfoliate their body and face with a natural, organic scrub, I have developed YIONN Kjarr. This scrub and peeling in one is also specially developed for women who shave, epilate, and/or wax.

The scrub is suitable for the most sensitive body parts such as the bikini area. The mild scrub YIONN Kjarr contains two important ingredients: Bacillus Ferment and finely ground apricot kernels.

Instead of the typical acid-based peeling, YIONN Kjarr offers an organic peeling with the enzyme Bacillus Ferment. This is much kinder to the skin and perfect for all parts of the body. Even for your face.

The scrub contains finely ground apricot kernels which, thanks to a fine grind, no longer contain sharp edges. The scrub is therefore not only suitable for all body parts, but also for all skin types.

View the YIONN scrub and peeling here.

For an effective exfoliating routine, I recommend using a soft exfoliating glove weekly. This allows you to massage your skin and ensure better blood circulation. The result is soft, healthy skin that is free of dead skin cells.

Whether or not to shave is a choice; fortunately, shaving irritation is now one too!

YIONN has developed the perfect product for every step in your shaving routine!

You’re fed up with it. Time and again, those red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after hair removal on your bikini line, armpits, and legs.

You feel frustrated and anything but sexy. No woman should have to feel that way. And that includes you.
First of all, I want to reassure you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your skin.

It’s actually just doing what it’s supposed to do. It reacts to the stress of hair removal, which causes all sorts of unwanted side effects, such as itching and red bumps.

Not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a helping hand.
And that is exactly what YIONN products do!

YIONN Raka is truly a top product! A gentle solution for those annoying, painful ingrown hairs, especially when combined with the scrub.
Cindy

I thought: you know what, I’ll just give it a try! OMG!!! I really should have done that sooner. I’m 37 now and for the first time, I dare to wear a bikini bottom with pride . What a miracle cure! Not a single bit of irritation to be found. It’s still bizarre. And I really suffered from it.
Nikkie zijlstra

A product that does what it promises, easy to use. I now have almost all the products and won’t use anything else.
Alice

After 2 weeks, I already noticed a difference. Almost no bumps and itching anymore after shaving. I’m definitely going to try more products.
Patricia Tikar

I’ve often used things like this but they never helped me, even though others were always satisfied with them, and I felt the same about this product too, but I ordered it anyway and it took a bit longer for me, but it definitely helped!
Maria Ilgun

Much less irritation and bumps. The shaving gel and Raka are truly my favorites; last time I bought shaving foam out of necessity and immediately got bumps and irritation again…

Free from your shaving irritation within 3 weeks: or your money back

That is my promise to you!

From certified nurse to hair removal expert:

I’m Wendy, the founder of YIONN. I know better than anyone what it’s like to go through life with shaving discomforts.

After desperately trying all sorts of ways and remedies for red shaving bumps and ingrown hairs and spending a lot of money, I was sick of it.
I decided to find a solution for my shaving irritation myself that actually worked, and I succeeded!

I developed Raka, a caring lotion based on rose water, camphor, and willow bark. By applying a thin layer to the problem area, it easily and quickly calms the skin after hair removal, prevents red bumps, and lets the hair grow out again—instead of in.

And with that, I could finally say goodbye to my insecurity and discomfort.

Hallelujah.

When it later turned out that Raka worked not only for me but also for many other women, I started creating several other products around it that can make hair removal a pleasant experience again.

And because I am so convinced of how it works and I don’t want to keep your money in the rare case that you aren’t satisfied, I came up with the unique YIONN 30-day money-back guarantee (a guarantee you normally never get on hygiene products).
