First aid for stubble after shaving
After shaving, stubble is the last thing you want. Maybe you’ve accepted it as part of shaving, or maybe you really want to get rid of it.
How do you prevent stubble after shaving?
And what actually is stubble?
I’ll answer the most frequently asked questions about stubble after shaving your legs or bikini line.

Stubble after shaving your legs or bikini line
You know the feeling. You’ve just worked hard in the bathroom and all the hairs have finally disappeared from the surface. You’re absolutely sure, because you’ve checked at least three times.
With peace of mind, silky smooth legs, and a smooth bikini line, you crawl into bed. The next morning, however, the fun is already over. You feel your skin and are startled. Why are your legs and bikini line so prickly?
Was all that hard work in the bathroom just a dream? Or did you unknowingly go into a mini hibernation? Nope. You’re just the (not so) proud owner of a common shaving problem: stubble.

What is stubble?
Stubble consists of hairs that grow back or are left behind after hair removal.
Nothing more, nothing less.
They can feel very hard and prickly, but they aren’t dangerous.
Luckily.
It’s not true that stubble grows back thicker and darker.
Stubble is the same hair in terms of thickness and color, just ‘new’.
Why does stubble feel so hard?
“After shaving, your hair grows back darker and thicker!” You’ve definitely heard this before. Maybe you’ve even said it yourself? But nothing could be further from the truth.
The reason this myth persists is because it actually seems that way at first glance. However, this rumor is easily debunked. Shaving doesn’t change the structure or color of your hair.
Since you only shave off the tip of the hair, the hair follicle remains intact. Hair growth is not affected, and you don’t change the shape or properties of the hair. All of this is determined by the untouched hair root.
Why does it seem like hair grows back thicker?
Well, as mentioned before, you only remove the top of the hair when shaving. Every hair is a bit thinner at the end.
By shaving, you remove that thin tip and only a stubble remains. This makes your hair seem a bit stiffer and feel thicker for a while.
But these hairs will also become thinner again over time.
Why does stubble grow back so fast?
How fast your hair grows back varies from person to person and is determined both genetically and hormonally. However, some women have such fast hair growth that stubble is already felt and visible just a few hours after shaving. Not exactly fun…
Your hair removal method also plays a big role, of course. We’ll explain this further down.
How can I prevent stubble after shaving?
Okay, at least we know what stubble is now. But what can you do about it? Unless you undergo laser treatment, you can remove hair as often as you like, but it will always keep growing back.
However, you do have some control over how quickly the stubble reappears and how hard it feels.
Beauty tip! The most common solution you’ll find on the internet is the one we do NOT recommend: shaving against the direction of hair growth. It does provide an extra smooth result, but it increases the risk of ingrown hairs and irritated skin.

Shaving with a single-blade razor
The blade of a single-blade razor is sharper than those of multi-blade razors, and hairs are shaved off more cleanly. As a result, it doesn’t feel like the hair grows back ‘thicker’ after shaving.
Moreover, it reduces the chance of irritation and ingrown hairs, helping you achieve a better shaving result.
A small side note: with a single-blade razor, you shave your hairs down to the skin’s surface. With a multi-blade razor, you pull the hair up first and shave it below the skin’s surface.
This temporarily provides a smoother result, but as soon as the hairs start growing again, the same stubble appears, and you also have a higher chance of ingrown hairs.
Taking a warm shower
Shaving in the shower means less mess anyway, but a warm shower also ensures your pores open up. This makes your hair softer and easier to remove.
This gives a better result than showering with cold water. This is because cold water closes your pores and makes your skin stiffer, significantly increasing the chance of razor burn.
Using a cooling aftershave
Using a woman-friendly aftershave after shaving ensures nourished and hydrated skin.
Additionally, you’ll suffer less from red bumps and dry skin, making stubble less noticeable and the hairs softer.

Waxing or epilating
With waxing and epilating, you remove hairs root and all. This means it takes longer for the hairs to reappear, and you can sometimes enjoy silky smooth legs for weeks. The new hairs will also feel much softer.
Watch out! Waxing and epilating increase the risk of ingrown hairs and can sometimes be quite painful. Especially the very first time. Fortunately, as you do it more often, the sensation becomes more bearable. You just have to bite the bullet at first.
Pulling your skin taut
By pulling your skin taut during shaving, hairs become more accessible to your razor, allowing you to remove them closer to the skin. Plus, you’ll have less chance of nicks and cuts.
Exfoliating weekly
The grains in a good scrub ensure that dead skin cells are removed and wear down existing stubble, so to speak, making it feel softer. Always use a natural, plastic-free scrub.
This is noticeably better for your skin and the environment. For example, YIONN uses apricot kernels in its organic scrub with sunflower extract. Lovely!
After following these 6 tips for stubble after shaving, you’ll definitely suffer less from legs or a bikini line that feels like sandpaper.
By using a different hair removal technique or the right shaving tools and taking good care of your skin with a suitable scrub and aftershave, you can enjoy soft, beautiful-looking skin every day.

YIONN Raka is truly a top product! A gentle solution for those annoying, painful ingrown hairs, especially when combined with the scrub.

I thought: you know what, I’ll just give it a try! OMG!!! I really should have done that sooner. I’m 37 now and for the first time, I dare to wear a bikini bottom with pride
. What a miracle cure! Not a single bit of irritation to be found. It’s still bizarre. And I really suffered from it.

A product that does what it promises, easy to use. I now have almost all the products and won’t use anything else.

I’ve often used things like this but they never helped me, even though others were always satisfied with them, and I felt the same about
this product too, but I ordered it anyway and it took a bit longer for me, but it definitely helped!

Much less irritation and bumps. The shaving gel and Raka are truly my favorites; last time I bought shaving foam out of necessity and immediately got bumps
and irritation again…

From certified nurse to hair removal expert:
I’m Wendy, the founder of YIONN. I know better than anyone what it’s like to go through life with shaving discomforts.
After desperately trying all sorts of ways and remedies for red shaving bumps and ingrown hairs and spending a lot of money, I was
sick of it.
I decided to find a solution for my shaving irritation myself that actually worked, and I succeeded!
I developed Raka, a caring lotion based on rose water, camphor, and willow bark. By applying a thin layer to the problem area, it easily and quickly calms the skin after hair removal, prevents red bumps, and lets the hair grow out again—instead of in.
And with that, I could finally say goodbye to my insecurity and discomfort.
Hallelujah.
When it later turned out that Raka worked not only for me but also for many other women, I started creating several other products around it that can make hair removal a pleasant experience again.
And because I am so convinced of how it works and I don’t want to keep your money in the rare case that you aren’t satisfied, I came up with the unique YIONN 30-day money-back guarantee (a guarantee you normally never get on hygiene products).
