Waxing versus waxing: what’s the difference?
Are you more than tired of those hard stubble after hair removal? Then waxing can be your savior in the hairy emergency!
But what exactly is that? And what exactly is the difference between waxing and waxing? And sugaring? In this article we’ll tell you! We also explain the different waxing methods so you can decide which option suits you best.

Waxing and waxing: is there a difference?
The short answer is “yes and no,” but of course that doesn’t get us much further.
So then the long answer: We Dutch like to expand our vocabulary by borrowing the occasional word from English. This is also how waxing entered our dictionary.
Because even though we already own the primal Dutch term “waxing,” we also like to use the anglicism “waxing.” So in itself it is the same thing.
On the other hand, what makes for a big difference is the method of waxing. And especially the type of wax as well as the method of application and removal.
So why do so many women think that waxing and waxing are two different hair removal methods?
This is because Brazilian Wax is performed primarily with stripless resin.
Because of this, many people assume that waxing is done only through stripless resin and that waxing refers to sticky resin that you remove with a strip.
That the waxing method produces a different result is indeed true. But that doesn’t mean that waxing and waxing are therefore two different things.
So to this day, waxing is still just an anglicism.

Hard wax, soft wax or sugaring: which is the best option for you?
Now that we have solved that riddle, we can move on to the next step. Because, of course, you still don’t know which method of waxing (or waxing) is best for you.
Hard wax
Hard wax is also called strip-free waxing, no strip wax and strip-free wax. Anyone who has ever had the famous Brazilian Wax performed knows what we are talking about.
With hard wax, use a spatula to apply a thin layer of warm wax to the skin.
You then allow the wax to cool, causing it to harden and the hairs to become anchored in the wax.
Then when you remove the wax by loosening a tab and pulling it, the hairs come with it as well.
Best to use for: sensitive areas such as bikini line, armpits, upper lip and face.
Advantages
- Perfect for the bikini line: Hard wax has a better grip on the hairs. This makes it perfect for your bikini line since pubic hair is coarse and harder to remove from the follicle.
- Less skin irritation: Although hot stripless wax sticks, this is no longer the case when cold. Thus, the wax only sticks to the hair and does not act as a band-aid on the skin.
- Smoother: The heat of the wax can make the process more comfortable and open your pores, making the hairs easier to remove.
Tip! Warm water also softens your hair and opens your pores. Therefore, take a hot shower before waxing.

Cons
- Tampering: The viscosity of hot wax produces a fair amount of tampering in most cases.
- Caution: You can get badly burned by applying overheated wax to your skin.
- Price tag: Hot wax treatments at a beauty salon can be quite pricey.
Soft wax
Soft wax is also called strip waxing, strip waxing and strip waxing. This is a somewhat outdated method of hair removal in which you attach strips to the skin.
If you then remove the strip, you also pull out the hairs.
Resin with strips refers to both ready-to-use resin strips that you have to warm between your hands and the resin method where you first apply the warmed resin to the skin and stick a strip on top.
Best to use for: less sensitive areas such as legs, arms, chest and back. You can also buy ready-made resin strips for your face and upper lip at the store.

Cons
- Greater risk of skin irritation: Because the strips adhere to the skin, the skin is stressed and can become irritated or even damaged.
- Single hair days: Because the hairs do not become embedded in the wax, this form of waxing is not suitable for very short hairs.
You will therefore need to grow your stubble a minimum of 1.5 millimeters. - Stickiness: A sticky residue often remains on the skin. However, you get a special cloth for this with most ready-made strips.
Sugaring
Sugar waxing, sugar paste, body sugaring or Persian waxing. Whatever you want to call it, sugaring is in.
It is a less painful and completely natural alternative to wax hair removal.
The paste, made from sugar, lime and hot water, is first applied against hair growth. And then it is removed with the direction of hair growth.
This makes your hairs less likely to break off and less likely to get ingrown hairs.
Moreover, the paste does not stick to the skin, but only to your hair. So your skin is not put under extra stress and this makes sugaring more suitable for people with sensitive skin.
So are there no downsides to sugaring? Still.
In fact, it is difficult to apply this method yourself at home. The technique takes some practice and the consistency of the mixture also needs to be right.
Sugaring, therefore, is best performed by a professional beautician.
Best to use for: the whole body.
Advantages
- Less pain
- Less chance of ingrown hairs
- Suitable for sensitive skin
Cons
- Difficult to apply yourself and thus pricey

From registered nurse to hair removal expert:
I am Wendy, the founder of YIONN.
I know better than anyone what it is like to go through life with shaving discomfort.
After desperately trying every possible way and remedy for red razor bumps and ingrown hairs, I was fed up.
I decided to find a solution to my shaving irritations that worked and it did!
I developed Raka, a caring lotion based on rose water, camphor and willow bark, which, by applying thinly to the problem area, easily and quickly calms the skin after hair removal, prevents red bumps and allows the hairs to grow out – instead of in – again.
And with that, I could finally say goodbye to my insecurities and discomforts.
Hallelujah.
When it later turned out that Raka was not only for me, but also for many other women, I started making several other products around it that can make hair removal a pleasant experience again.
And because I’m so convinced it works and I don’t want to keep your money in the rare case you’re not satisfied with it I came up with the unique YIONN within 30 days money-back guarantee (a guarantee you never normally get on hygiene products).
