YOUR YIONN SINGLE BLADE RAZOR

The Benefits

For years, marketing has convinced women that more blades (a multi-blade razor) are better.

But this is far from the truth. The more often a blade passes over your skin, the more it damages the outer skin layer.

The “lift-and-cut” mechanism in multi-blade systems causes hairs to retreat below the skin surface after being cut, leading to irritation and ingrown hairs.

With the sharper, higher-quality blades of a Single Blade razor, you’ll achieve a closer and smoother shave.

Think of it like a sharp kitchen knife—it performs much better than a dull one. The same applies to your Single Blade razor!

Unlike multi-blade plastic cartridges, Single Blade razors use a standard design. You can find replacement blades anywhere: online, at drugstores, or in our webshop.

How to Insert the Blade

Caution: Always hold the blade by the short edges, never by the long sharp sides. The blades are extremely sharp, even when too dull for shaving.

A Single Blade razor consists of three parts: The head (A) The comb (B) The handle (C)

Parts A and B together form the razor head.

  1. Hold the razor head (A and B) and unscrew the handle (C) by turning it counterclockwise. Never twist the razor head.
  2. Ensure all parts (A, B, and C) are separated.
  3. Carefully remove the blade from its packaging.
  4. Place the blade onto the head (A).
  5. Position the comb (B) over the blade and head (A), ensuring the teeth of the comb face upward, away from the handle.
  6. Screw the handle (C) onto the razor head (A and B), turning the handle (not the head) until secure. The blade should form a slight curve.

How to Use It

Switching from a multi-blade razor to a Single Blade safety razor may take some getting used to, especially if you have sensitive skin.

But it’s called a safety razor for a reason! The rounded plate on the head ensures safe shaving of all areas you’d previously shave with a multi-blade razor.

The Ideal Angle: The ideal angle between the blade and your skin is 30°.

  • If the angle is too small, it can cause irritation, burning, and cuts.
  • If the angle is larger than 30°, the blade may not touch your skin, leaving hairs unshaven.

Practice makes perfect! With experience, you’ll find the ideal shaving angle, reduce nicks, get smoother results, and extend blade life.

Shave with the Grain: As a beginner, shave in the direction of hair growth rather than against it. This is gentler on your skin and more comfortable.

Once you’re experienced, you can make a second pass against the grain for an even smoother result.

Take Your Time: Don’t rush. A safety razor works differently than a multi-blade razor. Practice on easy areas like your legs before moving to more sensitive areas.

Open Your Pores: Wet your skin with lukewarm water to open the pores for a smoother shave. You can even shave in the shower.

Use Shaving Cream: A nourishing shaving cream softens the hairs and makes them stand upright, reducing friction and irritation for a smoother shave.

Rinse with Hot Water: Rinse the blade with hot water before use. This prolongs the blade’s life. During shaving, rinse frequently under running water to remove cream and hair residue.

Short Strokes: Use short, fluid strokes. Unlike multi-blade razors, a Single Blade razor doesn’t have a pivoting head to follow body contours, so short strokes help maintain control.

No Pressure: Let the razor glide across your skin without applying pressure. Pressing down is a common cause of nicks and cuts. Let the head’s weight do the work.

Dry Gently: After shaving, gently pat the blade dry—don’t rub it. This prevents dulling the blade prematurely.

Close the Pores: Finish with a cold water rinse or apply an aftershave balm to soothe your skin and prevent irritation. Pat your skin dry with a towel (don’t rub).

Tips for the Pros

Be Extra Cautious with Delicate Areas: Take care when shaving areas with thin or sensitive skin, like the backs of your knees or your groin. The rounded head of the Single Blade razor does help prevent cuts, but always make sure to keep the skin as taut as possible in these areas.

Underarms: When shaving your underarms, try using an “X” pattern. Start by shaving in the direction of hair growth, then shave from side to side, and finally, against the grain for a closer shave.

If you have sensitive skin, it’s best to skip the last step and only shave from top to bottom and side to side. Don’t forget to keep the skin of your underarm stretched tight for smoother results.

Intimate Area: The intimate area is the most sensitive, so always exercise extra caution. It’s recommended to shave this area only once you’ve gained some experience with a Single Blade razor. Keep the skin tight at all times to avoid nicks.

Shave the mons pubis from top to bottom and, if your skin allows, from bottom to top as well.

Shave your groin area from side to side, and for areas further “down under,” shave from top to bottom. Keeping the skin tight is key to preventing cuts.

Pimples and Moles: Whenever possible, shave away from pimples or moles to avoid accidentally nicking or damaging them.

Tips to Extend the Lifespan of Your Razor Blades

To significantly extend the life of your blades, it’s important to properly dry your razor after each use.

Blades dull faster from exposure to moisture rather than friction with hair. Using blades with an anti-rust coating can further extend their lifespan. The razor itself cannot rust.

– Drying –

Shake it dry: Quickly flick the blade to shake off any remaining water.
Pat it dry: Use a towel or washcloth to gently pat the razor head dry. Avoid rubbing to prevent dulling the blade.

– Cleaning –

Clean your razor regularly (at least once every two weeks) under hot running water. You can use soap or shampoo to remove any residue.

– Traveling –

Generally, Single Blade razors are allowed on flights. However, it’s a good idea to remove the blade from the holder and pack it in your checked luggage (not your carry-on).

How Long Does a Blade Last?

There’s no universal answer to this—it depends on factors like hair thickness and density, how often you shave, the blade’s coating, your experience, and your shaving technique.

For example, hardened blades with a platinum coating tend to last longer.

On average, you can expect to get 8 to 10 shaves from a single blade, depending on the factors mentioned above.

How to Know When Your Blade Is Dull

A sharp blade should glide smoothly across your skin. If you notice the blade pulling or snagging, it’s time to replace it. First, try the other side of the blade. Once both sides are dull, replace the blade.

If you’re using blades without an anti-rust coating and you notice rust, replace the blade immediately.

Replacing Your Blade

When it’s time to replace the blade, carefully remove it from the razor head. Always hold the blade by the short edges and never by the long sharp edges.

Even when a blade is too dull for shaving, it remains sharp enough to cause cuts.
Important: Always twist the handle, not the razor head, when disassembling the razor.

Dispose of used blades with your metal recycling or regular trash. Ensure the blade is safely enclosed to prevent accidents—placing it in an empty tin can works well.

Out of blades? You can buy replacements online, at drugstores, or directly from our webshop.

No woman should ever feel that way, and neither should you!

First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.

That’s not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a little extra help. And that’s exactly what YIONN products are designed to do!
