My best shaving tips for women: avoid these 12 common mistakes

Every woman who shaves – whether it’s your legs, armpits, arms or bikini line – knows: shaving is a time-consuming job and does not give a guaranteed smooth result. That’s why I’d like to share with you my 12 best shaving tips, so you can tackle it better from now on.

By paying just a little more attention to your shaving routine, you not only achieve a smooth result, but you can also get rid of shaving irritation, red bumps and ingrown hairs. After all, shaving is a minor stress moment for your skin, and if you don’t handle it carefully, you’re putting yourself through unnecessary “misery. The mistakes below are still made a lot, but if you take the tips to heart, shaving will be easier, more enjoyable and a better and smooth result for you too. Read the article and you’ll be more than ready for your next shave.

1. Do not remove dead skin cells

Prior to shaving, it is necessary to prepare your skin. By regularly removing dead skin cells, you reduce the chances of shaving irritation. Dead skin cells that have accumulated in your pores are therefore better lost than rich. How to remove them? Through scrubbing or exfoliating. Using an exfoliating glove regularly for your legs, bikini line and armpits is a simple, effective way.

2. Dry shaving

Is shaving often a last-minute chore for you? Then you are not the only one. Many women don’t think about it until they are about to fly out the door. As a result, armpits and legs, for example, get a quick haircut before leaving. And if you’re in a hurry you’re going to be less careful. Logical. Thus, a common mistake is “dry shaving. By this I mean shaving without shaving foam, cream or without wetting the razor. It lacks any kind of protection between the razor and your skin. The result? Dry, dull-looking skin and an increased risk of shaving irritation.

3. Not warming up your body

When you shave, it is helpful to warm up your skin first. Instead of cold water, use lukewarm water or warm water. For example, by taking a nice, hot shower first. This will open the pores of your skin and soften your hair. This creates the perfect circumstance for a successful shave.

4. Shaving against hair growth

A common mistake while shaving is shaving against hair growth. Instead, it is better to shave with the hair growth when you shave. By looking closely at your hairs, you can see the direction of hair growth. With your legs, it is usually from top to bottom and so it is best to shave from top to bottom. Do you shave with the single-blade razor and not a multi-blade? Then shaving against hair growth won’t hurt. So if you want to keep shaving against hair growth (for a smoother) result then switching to a single-blade razor is a must.

5. Pressing too hard on your razor

When you are in a hurry or using an old razor that is actually too blunt, the temptation is to press harder on your razor than necessary. By doing so, you increase the chances of getting wounds. Rather, let the blade glide smoothly over your skin. Is smooth shaving not working? Then it’s time to replace your razor or razor blade.

6. Using a multi-blade razor

I just wrote. If you are shaving against hair growth then you better say goodbye to your multi-blade razor. But there are more reasons why using a multi-blade razor can be problematic: ? A multi-blade razor has multiple blades. This ranges from two to as many as five or six. And, the more blades the more your skin has to endure. With each stroke, you scrape the same piece of skin with multiple blades. And this causes unnecessary redness and irritation. ? Also, a multi-blade razor or shaver uses what is known as the “elevator and cut” technique. This means they stretch the skin and pull your hairs out a bit before cutting them off. This initially gives a smoother result, but significantly increases the risk of ingrown hairs. The solution is to switch to a single-blade razor. It is more skin-friendly and also a lot more durable than (disposable) multi-blades.

7. Not investing in a good shaving gel or cream

Not only dry shaving is disastrous for a nice shave. The lack of a good shaving gel or cream also has an impact. This is because it acts as a protective layer between your skin and the razor during shaving. Preferably choose a (nourishing, moisturizing) translucent gel or cream so you can clearly see what you are doing.

8. Not rinsing your razor

It is obviously important to be hygienic. You do this by using a clean razor on the one hand and by keeping your razor clean while shaving on the other. Don’t you rinse in between? Then hairs, shaving foam – or cream accumulate . This also makes for a less attractive shave because your hairs are less accessible. So rinse your blade – and your skin – regularly.

9. Not replacing your razor blade on time

Once your razor no longer glides smoothly over your skin and hair, has rust spots or has been used by someone else, it’s time to replace your razor blade. A razor contains thousands of bacteria after the first use. So it is also important from a hygienic point of view to regularly replace your shaving blade or razor. On average, a single-blade razor blade lasts 8-10 shaves. So a lot longer than disposable blades. These sometimes need replacing after just one shave.

10. Ignoring shaving irritation

I see. No one is waiting for shaving irritation after shaving. But, pretending it’s not there is never wise. In fact, by being aware of the problem, you can look for the solution. Do you suffer from irritation such as itching, red skin and red bumps after shaving? Or do ingrown hairs develop several days after shaving? And what exactly is your problem area? Perhaps shaving your legs goes smoothly, but things go wrong when shaving the bikini line. Once your problem and your problem area are clear you can start looking for a solution. Thus, the YIONN Raka lotion will help you get rid of itching, bumps and ingrown hairs within 3 weeks (and otherwise receive your money back).

11. Wearing tight underwear after shaving

Not only before and during shaving can anything go wrong. Even afterward, it pays to be careful. In this case, I’m talking about what you put on after shaving. Clothing and underwear in which your skin cannot breathe properly is not a good idea. The right underwear can make a world of difference. By avoiding tight underwear after shaving your bikini line, you reduce chances of shaving irritation. Your skin can breathe and recover adequately. The same goes for wearing clothes that are too tight after shaving. Leave those tight jeans in the closet for now and opt for a wide legged pair of slacks or loose-fitting skirt or dress.

12. Not taking care of your skin after shaving

A common shaving mistake is the lack of “aftercare. After shaving, it is important to take good care of your skin so that it can recover. There are several products available that are suitable for this purpose. Consider, for example, a special oil or aftershave balm for women with aloe vera. After applying it, you notice an immediate difference. Your skin feels calmer and the burning sensation disappears. What do you put on your skin after a shave? Careless or improper shaving causes irritated skin, itching, bumps and ingrown hairs It should be obvious: a smooth shave without irritation depends on many factors. Which of the above common mistakes are you guilty of? Address them immediately and enjoy calm, healthy skin and shave with pleasure from now on. Whether it’s your legs, armpits or bikini line.
