All about Vitamin E: discover why it is indispensable

Everything you want to know about Vitamin E is in this blog post.

What is it, what does it do, and why do I need it?

I’ll explain it in detail

Vitamin E is one of the 13 vitamins we know (with Vitamin C probably being the most well-known).

You get Vitamin E through your diet, can take supplements, and it’s a popular ingredient in skincare products (including our YIONN Náinn and all YIONN creamshaves).

But why is it so important?
Keep reading and discover why Vitamin E is indispensable.
In your body and in your skincare products.

What Is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E is, as you’ve probably guessed, a vitamin. Specifically, it’s a fat-soluble vitamin. This means it’s best absorbed by the body when fat or oil is present.

It literally dissolves in “fat.” This is convenient because fat-rich products like vegetable oils, nuts, and seeds contain relatively high amounts of Vitamin E. Our body doesn’t produce Vitamin E itself, so you can only get it through your diet.

The most active component in Vitamin E is α-tocopherol, which is why it’s also called “tocopherol.” Under this name, you’ll see Vitamin E listed in the ingredients of skincare products.

→ Did you know that Vitamin E is the most common vitamin in your skin? Yes, that’s right. Especially the skin layer with dead skin cells contains relatively high amounts of Vitamin E. The vitamin reaches the sebaceous glands through the body, and then into the upper skin layer.

Where Is Vitamin E Found?

As I mentioned, our body doesn’t produce Vitamin E, so we need to get it from our diet.

Of course, you can also take Vitamin E supplements, but Vitamin E deficiency is rare in the Netherlands, so supplementation is often unnecessary. You can get all the Vitamin E you need from your food. Specifically, plant oils and plant-based products are incredibly rich in Vitamin E.

Here are some examples:

  • Leafy vegetables
  • Sunflower oil
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Grains

Animal products contain relatively little Vitamin E.

How Much Vitamin E Do You Need Daily?

Women generally need less Vitamin E than men.

The recommended daily intake for women over 18 is 11 milligrams of Vitamin E from food. For adult men over 18, it’s 13 milligrams per day.

If you eat a healthy and varied diet, you can assume you’re getting enough Vitamin E. Supplements are unnecessary in most cases.

Make sure to regularly eat plant oils, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and grains. These are excellent sources of Vitamin E.

Suspecting a Vitamin E Deficiency?

If your diet isn’t great or if you’re dealing with low immunity or illness, you might wonder if you have a Vitamin E deficiency.

A deficiency occurs when you consistently don’t meet the recommended daily intake of Vitamin E. Fortunately, a (severe) Vitamin E deficiency is very rare.

If you suspect a deficiency, it’s best to consult your doctor or a dietitian. They can do a blood test to check if you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals.

To shave or not to shave is a choice, shaving irritation now thankfully also!

YIONN has developed the perfect product for every step of your shaving routine!

You’re fed up. Those annoying red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after shaving your bikini line, underarms, and legs. It leaves you feeling frustrated and anything but confident.

No woman should ever feel that way, and neither should you!

First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.

That’s not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a little extra help. And that’s exactly what YIONN products are designed to do!
