All about Vitamin E: discover why it is indispensable
Everything you want to know about Vitamin E is in this blog post.
What is it, what does it do, and why do I need it?
I’ll explain it in detail

Vitamin E is one of the 13 vitamins we know (with Vitamin C probably being the most well-known).
You get Vitamin E through your diet, can take supplements, and it’s a popular ingredient in skincare products (including our YIONN Náinn and all YIONN creamshaves).
But why is it so important?
Keep reading and discover why Vitamin E is indispensable.
In your body and in your skincare products.
What Is Vitamin E?
Vitamin E is, as you’ve probably guessed, a vitamin. Specifically, it’s a fat-soluble vitamin. This means it’s best absorbed by the body when fat or oil is present.
It literally dissolves in “fat.” This is convenient because fat-rich products like vegetable oils, nuts, and seeds contain relatively high amounts of Vitamin E. Our body doesn’t produce Vitamin E itself, so you can only get it through your diet.
The most active component in Vitamin E is α-tocopherol, which is why it’s also called “tocopherol.” Under this name, you’ll see Vitamin E listed in the ingredients of skincare products.
→ Did you know that Vitamin E is the most common vitamin in your skin? Yes, that’s right. Especially the skin layer with dead skin cells contains relatively high amounts of Vitamin E. The vitamin reaches the sebaceous glands through the body, and then into the upper skin layer.

Where Is Vitamin E Found?
As I mentioned, our body doesn’t produce Vitamin E, so we need to get it from our diet.
Of course, you can also take Vitamin E supplements, but Vitamin E deficiency is rare in the Netherlands, so supplementation is often unnecessary. You can get all the Vitamin E you need from your food. Specifically, plant oils and plant-based products are incredibly rich in Vitamin E.
Here are some examples:
- Leafy vegetables
- Sunflower oil
- Nuts
- Seeds
- Grains
Animal products contain relatively little Vitamin E.

How Much Vitamin E Do You Need Daily?
Women generally need less Vitamin E than men.
The recommended daily intake for women over 18 is 11 milligrams of Vitamin E from food. For adult men over 18, it’s 13 milligrams per day.
If you eat a healthy and varied diet, you can assume you’re getting enough Vitamin E. Supplements are unnecessary in most cases.
Make sure to regularly eat plant oils, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and grains. These are excellent sources of Vitamin E.
Suspecting a Vitamin E Deficiency?
If your diet isn’t great or if you’re dealing with low immunity or illness, you might wonder if you have a Vitamin E deficiency.
A deficiency occurs when you consistently don’t meet the recommended daily intake of Vitamin E. Fortunately, a (severe) Vitamin E deficiency is very rare.
If you suspect a deficiency, it’s best to consult your doctor or a dietitian. They can do a blood test to check if you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals.

Too Much Vitamin E
Instead of a deficiency, there’s such a thing as a Vitamin excess. It’s not possible to get too much Vitamin E through your diet, but it is possible through supplements.
If you’re taking Vitamin E supplements (on the advice of a doctor or dietitian), it’s important to stick to the maximum safe dosage. However, there are few known side effects when building up excess Vitamin E.
It is known that too much Vitamin E in individuals with a Vitamin K deficiency or those taking blood thinners can interfere with blood clotting. So, it’s important to keep your Vitamin E intake balanced.
But if we’re already getting enough Vitamin E from our food, is adding Vitamin E to skincare products unnecessary?
No, definitely not. Let me explain why.
The reason cosmetic brands add Vitamin E to their products isn’t necessarily for health purposes.
You absorb very little Vitamin E through your skin, so eating it is a better option. The real reason your skin benefits from a product enriched with Vitamin E is because of its protective and strong antioxidant properties. It’s also an excellent preservative.
For natural products without chemical additives (hello, YIONN!), it’s almost indispensable.
→ You’ll find Vitamin E in the nourishing YIONN aftershave balm Náinn and the full range of YIONN shaving creams: Cream Shave Rosir, Cream Shave Mandarín, Cream Shave Án, and the limited edition Cream Shave Summer Fruits (mmm, with mango, raspberry, and orange).
So, Vitamin E helps your beauty products stay preserved without the need for any chemical additives. Since all YIONN products are free from chemical additives, it’s an essential ingredient for us.
I also added Vitamin E to our aftershave balm and shaving creams because it protects your skin from external harmful influences. This is incredibly valuable if you shave, wax, or epilate regularly. Your skin needs that extra bit of protection.

What Does Vitamin E Do in Skincare Products?
Vitamin E plays an indispensable role in protecting your body from harmful external influences. It acts as an antioxidant, protecting you from free radicals.
These are essential substances that fight viruses and infections. Free radicals are aggressive particles that attack your cells, tissues, and bloodstream, which can lead to premature skin aging.
Additionally, Vitamin E strengthens your skin’s barrier function. This reduces the number of free radicals and ensures that UV radiation causes less damage, meaning you’re less likely to burn in the sun.
Sounds good, right? Furthermore, Vitamin E allows other skincare products to penetrate deeper into your skin, making their ingredients work longer. What a team player!
Always Test Before Applying
Vitamin E is suitable for everyone! At least, if you’re not allergic to it. There are high standards for beauty products, and cosmetic brands can’t just release anything onto the market.
However, it has happened that people had allergic reactions to a specific product. This has occurred with Vitamin E as well. In such cases, it turned out that the Vitamin E wasn’t completely pure.
So, always test a small amount of the cream on your skin if you’re trying a new product or opening a new package.

Natural or Synthetic: Is There a Difference?
In skincare products, you might come across two types of Vitamin E: natural and synthetic Vitamin E.
And yes, there is a difference between the two. Synthetic Vitamin E generally has a bit less effect (and that’s why YIONN only uses natural Vitamin E).
This difference doesn’t apply to all vitamins. For example, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between natural and synthetic Vitamin C.
Are you curious about the benefits of other natural ingredients found in our products?
I break them down for you one by one on the YIONN blog. I’ve already written an article about camphor and miracle tree oil. Two magical ingredients you definitely want to add to your beauty routine!

To shave or not to shave is a choice, shaving irritation now thankfully also!
YIONN has developed the perfect product for every step of your shaving routine!
You’re fed up. Those annoying red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after shaving your bikini line, underarms, and legs. It leaves you feeling frustrated and anything but confident.
No woman should ever feel that way, and neither should you!
First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.
That’s not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a little extra help. And that’s exactly what YIONN products are designed to do!

Get rid of your shaving irritation within 3 weeks: or your money back
That is my promise to you!

From registered nurse to hair removal expert:
I am Wendy, the founder of YIONN.
I know better than anyone what it is like to go through life with shaving discomfort.
After desperately trying every possible way and remedy for red razor bumps and ingrown hairs, I was fed up.
I decided to find a solution to my shaving irritations that worked and it did!
I developed Raka, a caring lotion based on rose water, camphor and willow bark, which, by applying thinly to the problem area, easily and quickly calms the skin after hair removal, prevents red bumps and allows the hairs to grow out – instead of in – again.
And with that, I could finally say goodbye to my insecurities and discomforts.
Hallelujah.
When it later turned out that Raka was not only for me, but also for many other women, I started making several other products around it that can make hair removal a pleasant experience again.
And because I’m so convinced it works and I don’t want to keep your money in the rare case you’re not satisfied with it I came up with the unique YIONN within 30 days money-back guarantee (a guarantee you never normally get on hygiene products).
