The ultimate shaving ritual for women: 6 simple steps

Whether you shave daily, weekly or monthly, a good shaving ritual is important. Why do you wonder? Because shaving is quite a drain on your skin. While shaving, your skin gets a lot of abuse. When you don’t take shaving seriously, or skip important steps, shaving irritation such as itching and red bumps develop. No worries. This does not mean that it is better not to shave at all. It does mean getting it right. That’s why I’m sharing with you the ultimate shaving ritual for women. Follow the 6 steps below and you can enjoy soft, healthy-looking, shaved skin. The steps apply to shaving your legs as well as armpits and bikini line.

The ultimate shaving ritual for women: 6 simple steps

1. Nurishing

Before you have to think about shaving at all, it is important to regularly nourish your skin. Lubricating daily or several times a week with a nourishing body cream or body cream will help you do this. Always choose a perfume-free cream that moisturizes and repairs your skin. The body cream is best used after a (hot) shower, because that’s when your skin can use extra hydration.

2. Scrubbing

Just like nourishing, it is also important to exfoliate your skin regularly. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and improves the condition of your skin. In addition, you promote blood circulation and cell renewal. The result is healthy-looking firm, smooth, soft skin. If you have sensitive skin or want to exfoliate your armpits and bikini line, it is best to choose a scrub with a fine grain. Your legs can take a little more, but don’t overdo it. Above all, let the scrub or the scrub glove do the work; you don’t have to press or scrub hard yourself for good results.

3. Protect

Before you can shave, one more step follows: protecting your skin. Before you pick up your razor, lubricate your skin with a transparent shaving cream. It nourishes your skin while forming a protective layer during shaving. Be sure to use cream that is transparent so you can easily see exactly where you are shaving.

4. Shave

Yes, the shaving can begin. For good results with minimal risk of irritation, shave with a single-blade razor and shave only in the direction of hair. After shaving, rinse your skin with water (to rinse off residual hairs and shaving cream).

5. Care

After shaving, care for your skin with an appropriate aftershave cream or lotion. This soothes your skin and supports recovery. Beware of creams that contain perfume or alcohol. You definitely want to avoid these, as they will not only sting, but also cause considerable irritation. Rather, choose an aftershave with nourishing and soothing ingredients such as chamomile and aloe vera.

6. Maintain

The last, and perhaps most important, step is to maintain your skin. This will keep your skin in top condition and resistant to (daily) shaving. Giving your skin daily attention makes all the difference. I recommend using a product specially formulated for this purpose against itching, red bumps and ingrown hairs. That is an investment, but one that is ab-so-lutely worth it.

First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.
