Ouch Ouch in Curaçao

Absurdly warm temperatures in our little rainy country over the past weeks, so we definitely didn’t need to leave for the weather.

But a change of scenery and a different kind of warmth can do wonders. No kids or our loyal furry friend Bruno this time. We left them all at home :)

Just relaxing and clearing my mind for a while!

After 12 days of unwinding on the beach and doing absolutely nothing (which is not exactly my strongest suit…), I wanted to share something with you today.

All around me, I see ladies and gentlemen plopping down in the blazing sun with their (mostly still) pale skin.

And ouch… after just a few hours, the first “lighthouses” are shuffling back to their hotel rooms. And one thing is certain: no amount of aftersun can help them now!

From under my parasol, covered in a thick layer of sunscreen, I watch it happen. Poor people!

It reminded me to talk about using YIONN Raka and Róa during the summer months.

While the light peeling effect of Raka and Róa is fantastic, it also means your skin needs a little extra care when exposed to the sun.

That’s why I’m sharing 5 tips in this article for proper and responsible use.

But first, a quick explanation of why sun protection is so important.

Why Do I need to protect myself from the sun?

The sun is our greatest friend and a source of energy, light, and warmth.

But that giant fireball can also be incredibly harmful to our skin. Without proper caution, it can quickly become our worst enemy.

This is because of the ultraviolet rays (UV) the sun emits. Sunburn, eye damage, premature skin aging, and even skin cancer are just some of the potential consequences.

Sunburn is never fun, but have you ever thought about how it actually happens? You might assume it’s caused by the intense heat, right?

It’s a logical guess—but not entirely correct.

Sunburn isn’t caused by the sun’s heat; it’s caused by UV rays. That’s why you need sunscreen even on cooler days.

It may not seem sunny, but those UV rays will find you. Clouds or glass won’t stop them.

So, sitting “safely” behind a window on a cloudy day? Better slap on some sunscreen anyway!

Luckily, we have another line of defense besides sunscreen: our skin. To protect you, it produces pigment that absorbs and reflects UV rays.

This pigment is called melanin. The result? A tan.

A tanned skin tone is proof that your self-defense mechanism has kicked in.

While we might be lounging in the sun, our skin is working hard to keep us safe.

YIONN and the Glorious Summer Sun: 5 Essential Tips

1. Raka has a light peeling effect. This is nothing to worry about—in fact, it’s intentional! (Though it doesn’t happen to everyone, nor is it necessary for great results.)

Peeling is simply dead skin cells being removed. This keeps your hair follicles open, allowing new hairs to grow out properly.

This prevents ingrown hairs and leaves you with smooth, radiant skin. Once all the dead skin cells are gone, the peeling will stop naturally.

However, the newly revealed skin is more sensitive to sunlight and prone to discoloration or sunburn.

Since YIONN Raka doesn’t contain sunscreen, applying a suitable SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is a must! That way, your silky-smooth skin gets the protection it deserves.

2. Use Raka or Róa in the evening. Ideally, apply the product just before bedtime.

It will work its magic overnight, leaving you free to focus on protecting your skin from the sun the next morning.

Tip: Use a moisturizing cream or body lotion with high SPF. This supports the peeling effect, speeds up the removal of dead skin cells, and looks much better than flaky patches.

3. Reapply sunscreen frequently. Try to do this at least every two hours. Nothing lasts forever, and your sunscreen is no exception. Sweat, swimming, and friction can quickly reduce its effectiveness.

4. Enjoy the sun in moderation. Do you often sunbathe between 12 PM and 3 PM? It’s best to avoid this.

These are the hottest hours of the day, and no skin type can handle them well.

Additionally, you’re at greater risk of overheating and sunstroke. And nobody wants that. Hello, shade, my old friend.

5. Exfoliate more often during summer. Twice a week is a good guideline. A clean skin, free of dead cells, tans more evenly.

Plus, it helps you maintain that beautiful summer glow for longer.

”Ouch Ouch from Curaçao” I’m pretty sure some unfortunate souls are currently lying on their hotel beds with a painful case of “ouch ouch”…

I hope that won’t be you this summer. Be radiant, confident, and yourself—with a healthy, summer glow (and responsibly so!).

The sun and YIONN go hand in hand. Especially when used responsibly and correctly.

Wishing you a warm, long, and dreamy summer!

Warm regards,
Wendy

To shave or not to shave is a choice, shaving irritation now thankfully also!

YIONN has developed the perfect product for every step of your shaving routine!

You’re fed up. Those annoying red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after shaving your bikini line, underarms, and legs. It leaves you feeling frustrated and anything but confident.

No woman should ever feel that way, and neither should you!

First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.

That’s not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a little extra help. And that’s exactly what YIONN products are designed to do!
