IPL hair removal: this is how to take care of your skin before and after an IPL treatment

Effortless hair removal was something I could only dream of for years. I’ve tried all hair removal methods, but I kept suffering from red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after hair removal, even after an IPL treatment.

Until I developed the YIONN routine.

A routine consisting of 5 steps, suitable for all hair removal methods.

It differs slightly depending on the method, but the result is the same: smooth, healthy skin without hair or irritation.

5 Steps to Hair Removal with IPL Without Irritation

IPL hair removal is becoming increasingly popular. Unfortunately, there are some misconceptions about it. Let’s clear those up first.

For example, many believe that once you start IPL, you’ll never need to remove hair again. Unfortunately, this is not the case, at least not in the first year.

Hair grows in cycles. And not all hair is in the same cycle.

So after an IPL treatment, hairs – each growing back at their own pace – will regrow. It’s only after 3 or 4 cycles that you can see which hair follicles are truly paralyzed by the IPL treatment and no longer produce hair. IPL hair removal is not a form of permanent hair removal.

A home IPL treatment with an IPL device causes a temporary paralysis of the hair, so it temporarily stops or grows more slowly. But eventually, they will all – to some degree – grow back.

And where hair grows, there’s a chance for irritation such as red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching. So let’s quickly look at how you can take care of your skin before and after IPL hair removal to prevent irritation.

Stap 1: Cleanse

To prepare your skin for an IPL treatment, you need to ensure that your skin is thoroughly cleaned. An effective way to cleanse your skin is by exfoliating regularly, about 2-3 times a week.

That’s why I developed the Kjarr scrub and peeling in one. It not only removes dirt and sweat but also bacteria and dead skin cells. And if you struggle with ingrown hairs, the Kjarr scrub and peeling also helps loosen stubborn ingrown hairs.

Because IPL hair removal can be quite intense for your skin and exfoliating brings out a ‘new’ layer of skin that is sensitive, I recommend not exfoliating in the 5 days leading up to your IPL treatment.

Stap 2: Protect

In preparation for IPL hair removal, you need to take extra care of your skin to ensure its resistance is optimal. By doing this, you create a protective layer, similar to applying sunscreen. But in this case, you start 5 days before your IPL treatment.

The Náinn balm from YIONN is an ideal product to build resistance before IPL hair removal. It gives your skin the best preparation for the treatment. It reduces both the degree of irritation and the duration of irritation that can occur after hair removal.

I recommend applying the Náinn balm for 5 days leading up to your IPL treatment.

Stap 3: Hair Removal

Now that your skin is well-cleansed and its resistance has been built up, the real work begins: you’re going to remove hair (at home) with an IPL device.

Unfortunately, this is not a completely painless way of hair removal, but the results are certainly worth it.

Make sure to work hygienically to avoid unnecessary irritation.

Stap 4: Soothe

After the IPL treatment, your skin needs rest and recovery.

To soothe your skin, you can use the Náinn balm again, just like during the preparation phase.

This balm immediately calms your skin thanks to the addition of chamomile, mint oil, and aloe vera.

You’ll immediately feel that your skin is calmer and nourished.

Stap 5: Prevent

Now that the hair removal is done, you want to enjoy your smooth skin. Unfortunately, for 99% of women, after hair removal, we experience red bumps, ingrown hairs, or itching.

Fortunately, there is a way to prevent this. How? With the help of my Raka treatment lotion. After your IPL treatment, wait 5 days, then start applying this natural lotion, based on rose water, daily.

After the 3-week startup phase, you can reduce the frequency of use, for example, to 1-2 times a week. Do you have another IPL treatment scheduled? Then stop using the Raka treatment lotion 5 days before the next treatment.

To shave or not to shave is a choice, shaving irritation now thankfully also!

YIONN has developed the perfect product for every step of your shaving routine!

You’re fed up. Those annoying red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after shaving your bikini line, underarms, and legs. It leaves you feeling frustrated and anything but confident.

No woman should ever feel that way, and neither should you!

First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.

That’s not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a little extra help. And that’s exactly what YIONN products are designed to do!
