How your hormones determine your hair growth
Those annoying little hairs on our legs, underarms, and bikini line, we’d rather get rid of them than have them, but a beautiful, full head of hair is something we definitely want.
In fact, we often wish for that hair to grow as quickly as possible!
But what actually determines how fast our hair grows?

And is it possible for us to influence this? Keep reading to find out.
What Are Hormones?
Hormones. We’ve all experienced them, and when we’re in a bad mood for no apparent reason, they always seem to get the blame.
But what exactly are they?
A hormone is a chemical signal produced by cells in the body and travels through the bloodstream to regulate the activity of other cells.
They have a regulatory function in the body and influence many things, such as growth and behavior, but also skin and hair.
Sex Hormones
As the name suggests, sex hormones are released by the sex glands.
Some examples of events that can cause hormonal changes include the menstrual cycle, birth control pills, pregnancy, and menopause.

Female Hormones
– What are they?
You’ve probably heard of estrogen. It’s the primary sex hormone in women and is produced in the ovaries, along with progestogens (another important female sex hormone).
Estrogen keeps your skin and hair youthful, prevents excessive hair growth, regulates your menstrual cycle, and is responsible for the growth, maintenance, and repair of tissues.
They’re also essential mentally, as they help keep your mind sharp and contribute to a positive feeling.
However, after the age of 35, estrogen production starts to decline, which often leads to menopausal symptoms.
During menopause, estrogen levels drop even further. This is a natural and inevitable transition for all women, and symptoms like weight gain, hot flashes, and night sweats are common.
– Possible Effects of Hormonal Imbalance:
- Thinning hair
- Hair loss
- Hot flashes
- Night sweating
- Weight gain
- Vaginal dryness or itching
- Reduced or loss of libido
- Irregular or absent periods

Male Hormones
– What are they?
Androgens are a group of male hormones, with the most well-known being testosterone. DHEA-S is another well-known androgen hormone.
Many people think these hormones only exist in men, but women also produce them in small amounts in the ovaries and adrenal glands.
In return, we get strong bones, muscle development, and good fat metabolism.
Testosterone is also important mentally because it boosts your confidence and positively affects your mood. Just like estrogen, our testosterone levels also decrease over time.
– Possible Effects of Hormonal Imbalance:
- Hair loss
- Hirsutism or excessive hair growth (thicker and darker hair on unusual areas such as the face, chest, and abdomen)
- Acne

Thyroid Hormones
The thyroid is a hormone-producing gland located at the base of the neck.
The thyroid is very small, but don’t underestimate it, because this butterfly-shaped organ regulates nearly all the systems in our body and can cause many problems.
There are many types of thyroid disorders, and hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) is one of them.
Around 3% of Dutch people suffer from this, and it is more common in women.
Dry skin, brittle nails, fatigue, and hair loss are potential consequences.
This is because an underactive thyroid leads to poor circulation, which can reduce the supply of nutrients to the hair, resulting in hair loss.

Can We Do Anything About It?
It’s normal for our hair to become more brittle over time.
And yes, that’s fine on our body (less shaving!), but on our head, we still want a beautiful, full head of hair.
That’s why I’d like to share these two tips with you:
1. Eat Healthily and Diversely: When we hear the word “hair care,” we usually think of the products we apply to our hair.
But just like true beauty comes from within, hair must also be cared for from the inside. Foods rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals make your hair happy.
If your body experiences a prolonged lack of the right nutrients, this can lead to premature hair loss.
Fun Fact! Since hair follicles are considered “non-essential tissues,” they are the last in line when it comes to the distribution of nourishing ingredients. Poor nutrition often has a visible negative effect on your hair first.
2. Reduce Stress: Keep calm, get enough sleep, and clear your mind.
Because an overload of stress hormones is definitely bad for your hair growth, and in extreme cases, it can even lead to hair loss.

Will These Tips Make My Hair Grow Faster?
Once again, there’s a difference between what we want on our body and our head. When we’re watching in frustration as those annoying stubbles pop up again after just one day, it can feel like the hair on our head is growing at a snail’s pace.
How great would it be if we could control this all ourselves? Many people really believe that by eating healthy and using the right products, they can make their hair grow faster. But this isn’t entirely true!
These tips will improve the condition of your hair and potentially prevent hair loss, but they won’t directly speed up your hair growth. How fast your hair grows (on both your head and body) is genetically determined, and on average, hair grows about 1 cm per month on the head.
What these tips will do is indirectly affect hair growth. Since you’ll have fewer split ends, your stylist won’t need to trim your hair as often. Additionally, your hair will break less easily.

First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.
That’s not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a little extra help. And that’s exactly what YIONN products are designed to do!

From registered nurse to hair removal expert:
I am Wendy, the founder of YIONN.
I know better than anyone what it is like to go through life with shaving discomfort.
After desperately trying every possible way and remedy for red razor bumps and ingrown hairs, I was fed up.
I decided to find a solution to my shaving irritations that worked and it did!
I developed Raka, a caring lotion based on rose water, camphor and willow bark, which, by applying thinly to the problem area, easily and quickly calms the skin after hair removal, prevents red bumps and allows the hairs to grow out – instead of in – again.
And with that, I could finally say goodbye to my insecurities and discomforts.
Hallelujah.
When it later turned out that Raka was not only for me, but also for many other women, I started making several other products around it that can make hair removal a pleasant experience again.
And because I’m so convinced it works and I don’t want to keep your money in the rare case you’re not satisfied with it I came up with the unique YIONN within 30 days money-back guarantee (a guarantee you never normally get on hygiene products).
