Beautiful, Sure, Yourself with fruit in cosmetics

“You are what you eat,” is a saying we often hear. And it’s true!

But it’s not just about what goes inside your body, but also what you put on your skin.

Our skin absorbs everything it touches, and this can be both beneficial or harmful.

Are you using good, natural products? Then your skin will thank you. If not, you will eventually see the consequences, because they are not exactly kind to your skin.

Artificial colorants, synthetic fragrances, unnecessary parabens, hormone-disrupting chemicals, and harmful sulfates.

Popular beauty products on the shelves are often packed with these!

Not at YLONN, because we prefer to keep it natural and pure. (But if you already have our products at home, you know this!)

Especially because all those unnecessary ingredients aren’t needed at all. Nutritious vegetables and colorful fruits are perfect alternatives to the long list of unrecognizable ingredients we’ve become accustomed to.

Curious about which fruits can be used in your skincare products? And what exactly their effects are? Keep reading!

We’ve also included some fun DIY ideas for each fruit! You can make a mask with them, or how about a scrub? Or maybe you’d prefer a cleanser? Plenty of options!

Fruit is Healthy

It’s a fact that eating fruit is healthy. However, you shouldn’t overdo it, because that sweet taste is due to one thing: sugar.

(And believe it or not, natural sugar is not necessarily healthier than the sugar found in candy! – We’ll explain why in this article.)

Luckily, you don’t need to worry about this when you apply them to your skin.

The masks and scrubs we’re about to share with you can be applied generously without concern for your skin.

Orange

Why?

Vitamin C helps reduce pigmentation spots, plays a crucial role in fighting damage from free radicals, and gives your skin a radiant glow.

It stimulates the regeneration of healthy skin cells, is great for impurities, scars, and blackheads, and helps produce collagen, which keeps your skin firm and tight.

Sounds great, right?

Good news: oranges are packed with this! The peels actually contain even more vitamin C than the pulp itself, so don’t throw them away!

DIY Idea: Skin-Illuminating Orange Peel

  1. Place the peels of a few oranges in the sun to dry.
  2. Grind them into a fine powder.
  3. Mix 1 tablespoon of your orange peel powder with 2 tablespoons of yogurt and a dash of honey.
  4. Apply the mixture to your armpits.
  5. Leave it on for 15 minutes.
  6. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

DIY Idea: Nourishing Orange-Sugar Scrub

  1. Clean an orange under the tap.
  2. Grate the peel and place it in a bowl.
  3. Add 100 grams of sugar, 150 grams of solid coconut oil, and 2 tablespoons of honey.
  4. Mix with an electric hand mixer until everything is well combined.
  5. Store your scrub in an airtight jar and keep it in a cool, dry place.
  6. During your shower, apply the scrub to your skin in gentle circular motions.

Lemon

Why?

Dealing with dark armpits? A lemon is what you need.

The acid in lemon juice provides disinfecting and skin-lightening effects, and is excellent for the overall skin tone due to its high vitamin C content.

Tip! Many recommend lemon juice as the natural way to lighten your skin.

However, be cautious! The acids in lemon can sometimes cause extra irritation, which might make the problem worse.

Test this DIY remedy on a small patch of skin first. If there’s no adverse reaction, then you’re in luck and can enjoy the wonderful effects of lemon juice!

DIY Idea: Skin-Lightening Lemon Juice

  1. Cut a lemon in half.
  2. Rub the inside part on your armpits.
  3. Leave the juice to sit for ten minutes.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

DIY Idea: Skin-Lightening Lemon Mask

  1. Mix the juice of half a lemon with 1 tablespoon of yogurt and ½ teaspoon of honey.
  2. Apply the mixture to your armpits.
  3. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

DIY Idea: Nourishing and Refreshing Foot Mask

  1. Put 2 teaspoons of honey and 2 teaspoons of coconut or olive oil in a bowl.
  2. Mix everything well.
  3. Add 2 teaspoons of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice to the mixture.
  4. Mix everything again until smooth.
  5. Clean your feet well.
  6. Apply the mixture to your feet.
  7. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  8. Gently scrub your feet by massaging the mask in.
  9. Rinse thoroughly.

Apricot

Why?

Thanks to its high levels of carotenoids, iron, and vitamins A and C, the enticing apricot is a healthy, juicy snack.

But the kernels are also great for your skin.

“Apricot kernels? What do they do for your skin?” you might ask. Simple: a scrub needs exfoliating grains.

And what could be more natural and healthy than ground apricot kernels?

They’re packed with vitamins A and E, and their slightly coarser texture provides the perfect scrub and peeling effect.

This helps remove dead skin cells and impurities, leaving your skin radiant.

DIY Idea: Soft Apricot Kernel Scrub

  1. Crush 3 teaspoons of apricot kernels into powder using a mortar and pestle. (Tip! The finer the powder, the easier it is to use the scrub.)
  2. Mix the powder with 2 teaspoons of salt and 2 teaspoons of solid coconut oil.
  3. Store your scrub in an airtight jar and keep it in a cool, dry place.

Tip! No time for all this fuss? Try YLONN Kjarr! A ready-made, natural scrub containing finely ground apricot kernels. Perfect for all skin types!

Apple

Why??

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. This saying sounds better in English, but the benefits of an apple are always present, no matter the language.

An apple contains a wealth of useful vitamins and minerals: potassium, magnesium, and vitamins A and B6, to name a few.

It’s also a great source of antioxidants, keeping your skin youthful.

The pectin in apples has a soothing effect on the skin. And the fruit acids provide a natural facelift.

So an apple a day doesn’t just keep the doctor away, but also the plastic surgeon! ;)

DIY Idea: Soothing Apple Mask

  1. Blend a grated apple with 1 tablespoon of milk for a few minutes.
  2. Stir 1 tablespoon of honey into the mixture.
  3. Cleanse your face with lukewarm water.
  4. Apply a generous amount of the mask evenly to your skin.
  5. Let the mask sit for 20 minutes.
  6. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

DIY Idea: pH-Regulating Apple Cider Vinegar Toner

  1. Dilute 60 ml of apple cider vinegar in 125 ml of water and refrigerate until cold.
  2. Soak a cotton pad in the toner and massage it into your skin.
  3. Let it sit until absorbed (around 15 minutes).
  4. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Papaya

Why?

Papaya isn’t just soft and deliciously sweet, but also fantastic for your skin.

This tropical fruit contains the enzyme papain, which exfoliates and hydrates.

It also evens out and stabilizes the skin, helping to remove dark spots and reduce blemishes and acne scars.

It’s often used in both skin-brightening products and those aimed at a natural lift and rejuvenation of the skin.

DIY Idea: Skin-Lightening Papaya

  • Mash a ripe papaya into pulp.
  • Leave it on your armpits for 20 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

DIY Idea: Skin-Lightening and Rejuvenating Papaya Mask

  • Mix ¼ cup of green papaya with ½ teaspoon of honey and yogurt to form a paste.
  • Gently massage the mixture into your skin.
  • Leave it on for 15 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Mango

Why??

Mango is delicious to eat, but also rich in beta-carotene and vitamins A, C, E, and K.

The high levels of minerals, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and potassium help tighten pores and have a calming effect on the skin.

Mango also helps prevent skin aging by maintaining its elasticity.

DIY Idea: Rejuvenating Mango Mask

  1. Peel the mango and cut it into small pieces.
  2. Blend the mango with 2 tablespoons of yogurt and 2 tablespoons of honey.
  3. Apply the mask to your face.
  4. Leave it on for about 15 to 30 minutes.
  5. Rinse off with cold water.
