How To: Which blade do I choose for my razor?

Shaving with a single-blade razor is – especially the first time – a new experience. The razor feels different (because it’s heavier), and you have to choose and replace the razor blades yourself.

It takes a little getting used to, but before you know it, you’ll be comfortable with your new way of shaving.

And not only that, you’ll never want to do it any other way.

In the YIONN shop, you can choose from two types of razor blades for your single-blade razor: standard blades (sharpness 2) and blades for coarse and dense hair growth (sharpness 4).

What’s the difference, and which one is most suitable for you?

I’ll explain it in this article.

The Sharpness of the Razor Blade

When choosing a razor blade for your razor, it’s very important to pay attention to the sharpness of the blade.

Razor blades are available in 5 different sharpness levels: from sharpness 1 to sharpness 5. The higher the number, the sharper the blade.

1: very mild sharp
2: mild sharp
3: medium sharp
4: very sharp
5: ultra sharp

A razor with a higher sharpness isn’t necessarily better than a razor with lower sharpness. What really matters is which sharpness suits your skin and hair type.

Which Sharpness Should I Choose?

My advice is to choose a razor with higher sharpness, such as sharpness 3 or 4, for sensitive skin and coarse, dense hair growth.

The sharper the blade, the easier the hairs are cut, and the less frequently you need to go over your skin. Keep in mind, though, that with higher sharpness, the risk of nicks also increases.

So, practicing with a lower sharpness first isn’t such a bad idea.

For softer hair or non-sensitive skin, you can choose a razor blade with lower sharpness.

These blades are still very sharp, so your hairs will be neatly cut, but they are a bit more forgiving to use. By “more forgiving,” I mean: because they are less sharp, the chance of nicks is smaller.

However, you still need to be cautious.

Is It Dangerous to Shave with a Single-Blade Razor?

This brings me to a frequently asked question about shaving with a single-blade razor:

Is it dangerous? The answer is no, it’s not dangerous. As long as you use common sense, of course.

Think of it like using a sharp kitchen knife to chop vegetables. It’s safe, but you have to know what you’re doing.

To shave or not to shave is a choice, shaving irritation now thankfully also!

YIONN has developed the perfect product for every step of your shaving routine!

You’re fed up. Those annoying red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after shaving your bikini line, underarms, and legs. It leaves you feeling frustrated and anything but confident.

No woman should ever feel that way, and neither should you!

First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.

That’s not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a little extra help. And that’s exactly what YIONN products are designed to do!
