Epilation: 10 pros and cons of epilation listed
No longer feel like shaving several times a week? Want to enjoy wonderfully soft skin for longer?
Then epilation may be for you.
Hairs stay away longer and so you don’t have to wax weekly. Sometimes hairs stay away for up to eight weeks.
But, there are drawbacks to epilating as well.
I’ve listed all the pros and cons for you, so you can make an informed choice.

What is epilating?
Epilation is a hair removal method in which you use an epilator to remove the entire hair with the hair follicle attached. This makes it take much longer for the hair to grow back, so you don’t have to wax as often.
To be plucked by an epilator, however, the hairs must be at least half an inch long. This makes winter the appropriate time to start it.
How long do hairs stay away after epilation?
Every skin and hair growth is different, but in general you can say that hairs stay away for 3 weeks after epilation.
Because the hairs are removed in their entirety, you do not get stubble, but soft hairs appear that are not so noticeable. Plus, because hairs grow in different stages and hair follicles become exhausted over time and stop producing new hairs, there is also less hair to remove after each epilating session.
Also, the more often you epilate, the longer you will be able to enjoy smooth, hair-free skin. Sometimes up to eight weeks!

These are the benefits of epilating
As I wrote above, a big advantage of epilating is the long stay away and soft return of hairs (compared to shaving). But, there are more benefits.
1. Epilation results in less and lighter hair growth
When the hairs slowly reappear after epilation, they are not as noticeable and feel less stiff. This is because they are completely new and have a soft tip. Therefore, they do not feel like hard stubble, but rather like light, soft hairs.
Furthermore, there is also less hair to remove during a subsequent session. This is because not all hairs have the same growth cycle. Also, over time, some of the hair follicles will become exhausted and will not produce new hair (do not expect miracles, however).

2. It is suitable for short hair
An epilator can grab short hairs (0.5 cm) so your hair doesn’t have to get excessively long between turns. This is in contrast to wax strips that do not remove very short hairs well.
3. Epilation is a convenient hair removal method
Epilation is not difficult and can be done at home at your leisure. An epilator is small so it goes easily in your suitcase when traveling.
4. It is a ‘neat’ way of hair removal
Unlike waxing, epilation does not create mess and sticky mess.
Some epilators you can use in the shower or bath.
Other devices are only suitable for “dry” epilation.
5. Epilation prevents red dots and pits (strawberry skin) after hair removal
After shaving, you may see red dots and pits appear, This is called strawberry skin.
These dots are created by skin’s own oils, bacteria and dead skin that become clogged in the hair follicle and then turn black when exposed to oxygen.
In an epilation session, the hairs are pulled out with hair root and all. So there is no more chance of clogging the follicles.

These are the disadvantages of epilating
As you have read, there are many benefits to epilation. Unfortunately, like shaving, waxing, waxing and IPL, this hair removal method also has some drawbacks.
1. Epilation is painful
Fair is fair: epilating, especially at first, is incredibly painful.
So just grit your teeth!
This also makes it less suitable for sensitive areas such as your bikini line and armpits.
It can be done, but it is certainly not painless.
2. It causes redness and irritation
Epilation is a somewhat aggressive hair removal method that can cause redness and irritation, especially in women with sensitive skin.
You can reduce the chances of redness and irritation, though, by exfoliating with a mild, exfoliating scrub beforehand and proper aftercare, among other things.

3. Epilation can cause discoloration of the armpits
Even if you proceed carefully each time, hair removal is always stressful for your skin.
If your skin discolors quickly then there is a chance that “aggressive” hair removal methods such as epilating will cause pigment spots. This is because hair removal stimulates the production of pigment.
Dark armpits are the result. If you suffer from discoloration, I can recommend the YIONN Róa aftercare lotion. Within three weeks you can already see a difference.
4. It takes a lot of time
Because your epilator doesn’t pull out all the hair at once, it takes a little longer than shaving. Also, you may have to take a break in between because of the pain.
In addition, it is important not to move the epilator too fast, as this will break your hairs and increase the chances of irritation.

5. It increases the chances of ingrown hairs
Epilation and waxing cause faster and more ingrown hairs than other hair removal methods, such as shaving and using a depilatory cream.
While shaving, for example, you cut the hair close to the surface of the skin and create a sharp tip. This tip pokes easily into the skin and then, with luck, grows straight up.
With epilation, however, you pull the hairs out of the skin from the root. This damages the follicle and can change the direction of the new hair’s growth.
Moreover, new hairs also lack that sharp tip to pierce through the skin surface and therefore remain trapped under the skin.
Who is epilation suitable for?
I hope that based on the pros and cons of epilating, you can make an educated decision about whether epilating suits you or not. I recommend epilation to women who:
- Have a somewhat high pain threshold or not overly sensitive skin
- Not wanting to overspend on hair removal
- Want to enjoy smooth skin for longer periods of time
Is your pain threshold on the low side? Then shaving is a better option. Or do you want to enjoy hairless skin even longer? Then go for IPL or permanent hair removal.
Every woman is unique, and luckily depending on your schedule, wallet and pain threshold, there is always a hair removal method that suits you perfectly.

You’re fed up. Those annoying red bumps, ingrown hairs, and itching after shaving your bikini line, underarms, and legs. It leaves you feeling frustrated and anything but confident.
No woman should ever feel that way, and neither should you!
First, let me reassure you: there’s nothing wrong with your skin. Your skin is simply doing what it’s designed to do, reacting to the stress of shaving, which leads to unwanted side effects like itching and red bumps.
That’s not the result we women want, so we need to give our skin and nature a little extra help. And that’s exactly what YIONN products are designed to do!

From registered nurse to hair removal expert:
I am Wendy, the founder of YIONN.
I know better than anyone what it is like to go through life with shaving discomfort.
After desperately trying every possible way and remedy for red razor bumps and ingrown hairs, I was fed up.
I decided to find a solution to my shaving irritations that worked and it did!
I developed Raka, a caring lotion based on rose water, camphor and willow bark, which, by applying thinly to the problem area, easily and quickly calms the skin after hair removal, prevents red bumps and allows the hairs to grow out – instead of in – again.
And with that, I could finally say goodbye to my insecurities and discomforts.
Hallelujah.
When it later turned out that Raka was not only for me, but also for many other women, I started making several other products around it that can make hair removal a pleasant experience again.
And because I’m so convinced it works and I don’t want to keep your money in the rare case you’re not satisfied with it I came up with the unique YIONN within 30 days money-back guarantee (a guarantee you never normally get on hygiene products).
