A fresh (and necessary) spring breeze through your wardrobe

After a long, dark winter, spring is finally here! The days are getting longer and we are enjoying the sunshine. Goodbye winter blues, autumn ailments and (delicious) winter soups! Hello warm sunshine and bare legs! Ready for the spring update? Then read on quickly because in this article I share my 6 ultimate spring must haves as well as a handy step-by-step plan to make spring cleaning go smoothly. The “should I wear a coat or not?” season can begin!

Style guide for the first sunny days: 6 spring must-haves

Fancy entering this bright season in style? Then these items can’t be missing from your closet!

A fresh (and necessary) spring breeze through your wardrobe

1. Maxi dresses and/or long skirts

Light, airy and long. With an extra-long dress or skirt, you’ll be fine this season. Because yes, the sun is shining brightly, but in the shade it is still very chilly. Romantic, casual, bohemian or chic: the choice is yours!

2. Light trench coat

Don’t feel like lugging around your thick coat all day, but still find it a bit cold in the morning? Then go for a trench coat! It is a fairly thin jacket that is perfect for spring or on cold summer days. And a true classic that has never actually gone out of style.

3. Airy spring scarves

A thick, knitted winter scarf looks very nice. Still, I always look forward to the day when I can replace these with a light(er) one! Because then spring has really begun. Tip! Go for a fun color or fine pattern and hang the scarf around your neck, wrist or bag as an original spring accessory.

4. Colorful nylon stockings

Black and dark tights we saw plenty in recent months. Basta! Rather, combine your skirts and dresses with some color. How about red? Green? Or purple? The choice is yours!

5. Protective sun hat

Aaah, finally enjoying the light and warmth again! But in moderation, of course, because burnt and irritated skin doesn’t look good on anyone. And the damage the sun can do is enormous. So keep your sunscreen handy and protect your cup from the sharp spring sun with a fashionable hat.

6. Ballerinas and/or sneakers

The sun is shining brightly, but it is still chilly. Closed summer shoes are therefore a good option. They look nice, are comfortable and can handle all weather conditions! And blue (winter) toes from the cold are so painful and passé!

Operation spring cleaning!

To store your new spring items neatly, you obviously need plenty of space in your closet. That will be cleaning up and making choices blown! Ready? Here we go! What do you need.

  • Three boxes or large bags
  • A marker
  • One hour of time
  • A cluttered closet

The roadmap

Step 1: Get cozy! A nice tune and a cup of coffee or tea make the whole process much more enjoyable.

(A glass of wine will do, of course, but keep it to one or two glasses. Otherwise you’ll still be “cleaning up” tomorrow).

Step 2: Place the three boxes or bags side by side and write “keep,” “give away,” or “sell/dispose.

  1. keep: clothes that received a “yes” may disappear back into the closet. (In the next steps, you’ll discover how best to do that.)
  2. away: this bag is buttoned up and resolutely disappears. Forbidden to get anything more out of this!
  3. Selling/giving away: sounds very nice, but beware! Selling old garments is very time-consuming and, in most cases, yields very little.

Also, don’t give things away just to get rid of them quickly. But only if you are sure you are actually doing someone a favor.

Step 3: Take out your garments one by one. Not all at once! Otherwise, it immediately becomes a big mess.

Step 4: For each piece of clothing, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does it make me happy? Or do you actually dislike it?
  • Is it still good? Or is it dirty, damaged, discolored, torn or frayed?
  • Does it still fit? Or has it become too loose or tight over the years?

Step 5: Depending on your answers, throw the garment into the appropriate box.

Step 6: Take advantage of having your closet completely empty for once and get to work with a wet cloth and some all-purpose cleaner.

Dry well of course! Because the clearing out can begin.

Step 7: Get out the “keep” box and hang the garments in your closet.

How you sort them matters little: by color, species, weather or wear frequency. As long as it works for you.

Step 8: Be proud of yourself! And enjoy your tidy closet.
